Midnight Guardian: New Members (O//A)

Chapter One:

The New Members

"My name is Power Drive, well, that's not exactly my real name. I've lost that name a long time ago. Currently I reside within Ponyville where I have become deemed as protector of the night. It really is something else here; everypony is really nice and kind, even if I am a strange one to look at with my metallic wings, and a strange neck piece. Already, I've made many friends here, and I intend to keep them, and keep them safe. This is why I've become one that is known as a Midnight Guardian, protector of all who sleep under the moon."

Night was here, and Luna had did her job raising the moon as she did every night. To think that she was the main topic in a lot of the stories told at his old home, a goddess among many, and yet here she was, a symbol for many as the princess of night, beckoning the other ponies to rest in their beds and to escape into their dreams; to escape reality and become the kings and queens of their own worlds. As they slept, there were a select few that have devoted their time and responsibility as protectors, but this did indeed take a good bit of energy to accomplish since some of them had busy day lives.

Power found himself nearly falling asleep himself. He shook his head and looked up at the moon and the stars, his own cutie mark glowing a light sky blue color as he stared. He still remembered how he got this mark of the connect stars, how he followed the stars to return to his family when he was younger. He caught himself still staring into space, literally, and shook his head again. 'Stay focused, Power.' He thought to himself as he looked forward once again. He was glad that he was able to help this village like this, make sure that everypony else got what they deserved; a well night's rest. A part of him sometimes felt that a little bit of trouble would be a nice change of pace, of course that was his daring side speaking in his mind and he had to ignore it from time to time. So now here he was, at the edge of the entrance to Ponyville, making sure that nothing came out of the Everfree Forest and towards Ponyville. Nothing dangerous that is.

Star Song ((I have a charachter app but I'm on mobile so I can't give ya a link)) was lugging a bag out of the Everfree about a quarter mile from where Power was. Sometimes she'd sell some herbs to make a few bits. She gets tired of random edible stuff she finds that don't taste expecially good. She'd buy some real food with the bits she'd make. Her cutie mark shimmered in the moonlight making it the only part of her that didn't blend info the night. The older filly hoped nothing had followed her out like sometimes. That usually draws attention. With net keen eyesigshe saw Power. "What's he doing out so late?" She asked herself

Frost byte patrolled the streets of this small town called ponyvile after he was transferred from canterlot.

"What a life...." He grumbled to himself. Honestly he thought life needed action, not walking from point A to point B. then he noticed a familiar face. It was power drive, the town's new "night guardian".

He admired how humble he was, but his simple yet required job has made him star of the town. Does he want all that praise? Frost decided to go talk to him, so he trotted up to him.

"Hey power, anything interesting happen?"

Power didn't realize it right away, but he was lost in his thought again, as he had done many nights before, even before becoming a Night Wing and a Midnight Guardian for all of Ponyville and Canterlot. What were his thoughts on this time, lying on the mind that never truly rested? He thought of his old friends from his previous home before he started living here. The one he wondered about the most was...

He was soon brought out of his thoughts when he heard a voice say his name. It was a voice that he recognized without trouble, and didn't even have to turn his head to see who it was. "Hey Frost. Not really, just the same old, same old." He said with a flat tone voice to show that he was bored. "Hey, shouldn't you be asleep?" He asked with a smirk as he turned his head to look at Frost Byte. "It's no good to a pony's health of they stay up all day and night, and don't try and turn this around on me. I make time to sleep." He told him with a soft chuckle to show that he was playing around. His mood changed when his ears began to twitch some, alerting him that there was another sound coming from the distance, coming out from the Everfree forest. Quickly his head turned to the direction to where the noise was coming from, but he couldn't make out who or what it was. Whatever it was, it seemed to of been carrying something beside it. "Walk with me, Frost." He said as he stood up and made his way to the figure. He didn't know what he was about to get himself into; it could of been a barkwolf for all he knew. It mattered not, though, for his duty was to protect the village from invading deadly forces. As he got closer, he finally got a clear view of what it was, just another pony, but this filly was carrying a bag filled with who-knows-what in it. Power tilted his head some in wonderment, just what was her goal here? "Excuse me, miss? He said to catch her attention without startling her. "May we be of any help?"

"Wait power, isn't she that traveling herb pony. I think she's safe..."

[SongHeart]

"im fine thank you." Star said trying to hide her fear. she was carrying the herb that attracts timberwolves and she forgot. she hoped none were following her. but they were. they were a few hundred yeards behind her as she exited the forest and had come out of the forest a few minutes after Frost asked her that question. Star didn't notice

"She was too far away, I couldn't tell." Power told Frost when he made his statement. He then looked at the traveling herb pony. She said she was fine, but she was obviously in a hurry for some reason. "Oh, well... okay. If you're coming the Ponyville, we can at least provide as an escort..." He was cut off when he heard snarling from behind him, and from many different directions. He looked back, knowing full well what was causing those unpleasant noises; timberwolves. He stared them down as his metallic wings began to twitch, he was ready for this. "Frost, get her to the village. I'll be there soon." He said as he raised up one hoof and placed it on the weird necklace his had on. It clicked like a button when he touched it and the cylinder parts under his wings roared to life with small funnels of flames coming out of them; they were mini jets built underneath the wings to provide a speed boost. In a flash, Power had flew forward and tackled one of the wolves back into the forest with such force that the tree they both ran into nearly split in half. The other wolves turned and was ready to lung forward at Power to take him down, but some of them turned back around and stared at Frost and the filly with the bag with hungry eyes. As one of them stepped forward towards them, Power flew up out of the forest and high into the sky, then dashed forward and landed hard on top of the timberwolf that was moving towards the two, breaking it into many pieces. "Alright fools, listen up. I'm going to beat you all so hard that you'll wish you were never made..." He said softly, turning around to finally see the other wolves. "...deal?"

"i knew i shouldn't have taken wolf wood." (if i forgot to say, she was wearing a cloak that hid her wings) Star dropped the bag and flung off her cloak "dont care if you say no, im helping." Star said flying inches above the timberwolves.

Power shook his head, he was afraid that she would be like this. "Well, I am saying no. Now, go to the village. Princess Luna will make sure that you're safe. I'll be there soon, this will take just a moment." He told her, no hint of anger or anything of that sort could be heard from his voice, and when he turned to look at her only conformed no anger welled inside him as he gave a soft smile. One of the wolves tried to take advantage of this moment and lunged forward to swipe at Power's back, only to be met with a back hoof to the face. The wolf rolled back a couple of feet before finally stopping and staying still. Power snorted softly and turned back around. "I implore you all to try just a little bit harder." He said to them in a mono-toned voice. They snarled and lunged at him, even some jumping at him to try and catching him off guard. As he focused on that group, he didn't notice that a group of three stayed back, looking right at the filly and were ready to pounce on her as well.

Star noticed them. she was ready. she LIVES in the everfree she's had to deal with these guys who knows how many times. she landed waiting for them to, try, to strike. as they did she, with help of her wings. flipped over them and landed gracefully on on of thier heads. the other tried to attack but she gracefully flipped again. they just practicly bit off the head of the other one. she stayed midair so they wouldn't catch her by surprise "i dont need anypony keeping me safe."

The timberwolves got to Power, dog-piling him and pinning him to the ground. They snapped their jaws close to his body, trying to grab coat and skin to tear it off and leave him as nothing but blood and bones. Just then the wolves went flying in different directions off of Power as his metal wings had outreached and pushed them off with a great force. Standing up with a few cuts, Power stared down at the rising timberwolves as they tried again. This time Power was done letting them have their fun and kicked the first few back into some more that were behind them, then grabbed the next one and threw it hard behind him into another wolf, making a sickening crunch sound as they collided. The ones that were remaining began to back away, then turn and run back into the forest. He looked over at the filly and realized she had to fight off a few of them. There was one more behind her that he noticed she didn't get, and rushed over quickly before the wolf got a chance to pounce on her, and knocked it down, stomping the life out of it.

"Maybe not, but it's always a good idea to have another pony by your side in these kinds of situations." He said with a smile as he finally looked up at her "Now that that's out of the way, how about we introduce each other? My name is Power Drive." He said respectfully, keeping the smile on his face.

"im Star Song." Star said brushing the hair that had come out of her tight braid out of her eyes

[FrostByte]

Frost byte ran towards them and yelled,

"Are you crazy young foal?!?! You could of gotten killed!" She looked at powers wounds.

"Hold on..." She took her horn and waved it over his cuts, and they magically mended.

"Im not a foal." Star pouted like, well, a foal. I love in the Everfree. I've tangled with those things I don't know how many times. "

"Well at least it's done with, now where do you need to take your bags?" She picked up here bags and started to walk to ponyvile.

[SongHeart]

"I have a little stand in the market. "

[FrostByte]

"Then let's go." She used her magic to levitate the bags.

"So what brings you to ponyvile?"

[SongHeart]

"the only edible thing thats been growing is wolf wood. thats why they followed me. timberwolves are attracted to wolf wood. sometimes i sell some and some other herbs to get some real food."

Power followed behind the two quietly, listening as they talked among one another. Of course Frost was being her normal worrisome self, which was nothing bad, and in fact that was one thing he liked about her as a friend. He over heard what the filly known as Star Song said, about needing some real food. He tilted his head to the side as he thought, then smiled softly. "How about I give you some food from my place, I'm usually pretty stocked on a wide assortment of things to munch on. You can just stop by and grab what you want, I won't mind." He said with a happy tone of voice, his helpful side showing as it usually did.

"id really appreciate that. thank you!"

Power smiled widely. "It's my pleasure, Star." He said as he continued to follow them. It wasn't a long walk from where they were to the front gates of Ponyville, and beyond that Power's house was among the first ones to see. "Here we are. Home, sweet home-- huh?" He said as he saw a note taped onto the door. He grabbed the note and pulled it off the tape, opening it up and giving a smirk. "Oh Pinkie, her and her parties. Hey Frost, seems we've been invited to another party tomorrow." He told Frost Byte as he handed her the note so that she could inspect it. "We'll worry about that later. For now, lets go inside and get something to eat. To think about it, it was pretty hectic earlier today with all the preparations of... of... ah hay, I forgot. Oh well, it'll come back to me later I suppose. With all that going on, though, I kinda forgot to eat something." He said, and his stomach growled in response. "Hush, I'm going to get you something now. So what would you like, Star? Name it, and I might have it. Same to you Frost." He said as he trotted over to the kitchen.

her eyes brightened a little bit when she head pinkie's name. shes one of the only ponies that would go deep enough to the forest to meet her. she met her at one of her " party at the creepy old castle in the everfree by herself" parties."oat cakes?" she asked walking in.

"Good choice! I'll get that done right away." He said as he began pulling out the ingredients. He believed that homemade food tasted better than food that was already made and just placed on a shelf. No offense to Mr. Cake, in fact he rather enjoyed the Cake family's cooking.

Star wondered how Pinkie was doing. probably good since shes having a party tommrow

"A party, huh." She thought back to one of her parties.

"I'd just like something sweet to drink, please."
